| "My use of circles in my work came about when I was seconded to teacher's College. Wanting to teach the students a simple method of teaching weaving to children, I hit on the idea of useing circles of cardboard with the yarn stretched across through notches cut in the outside edge. This started me off in my own off-loom style of work. Unlike a painter who can work on a large piece of canvas, I was restricted to an area which I could reach with the length of an arm as the work is stitched onto plywood." - Vivienne Mountfort. |

| As a subject of early works native New Zealand bush was a natural development of using wool coloured with dyes made from native New Zealand plants. The off-loom technique is like needle weaving, affording flexibility in the way you put on the warp and weave the weft. Ideal for portraying the New Zealand bush, which has so many colours, textures and types of tree.
Over the years I have produced hundreds of works which are distributed all over the world: |
