This large commissioned work protrays a family homestead in felt stitched on board.
Titled for the location 'Castle Point Sheep Station' it measures 1.9 X 1.09m

I have made numerous art works on commission over the years and taken great joy in doing so.

Some have given me a photo of the view of their home from which I have woven a work, others have requested a work depicting some particular aspect of their farm or our NZ native bush, ie. the beech forest. "The Pohutukawa on the Cliff Face" which was commisioned by the Robert McDougall Art Gallery in Christchurch, hung in the Civic Offices of Chirstchurch City Council beside the Mayor's Suite for many years and now is waiting to be installed in the New Christchurch City Art Gallery.

Two commissions which I took great joy in carrying out were for the new owners of Castlepoint Sheep Station on the Wairarapa Coast, Anders and Emily Crofoot, a delightful American couple. Above is one of the resulting commissioned pieces representing the property in felt. A detail of the lighthouse is on the right (and a detail of hand work suggesting sheep in the paddock as the background for Vivienne's home page is a close up from this commission).

I visited them and photographed their farm from many angles so that I could get a feel for the area.

A commission carried out for the VIP room at the Chiristchurch International Airport depicted the Kahikatea growing in Riccarton Bush. This was selected to contrast the old with the new, Riccarton Bush being the only remnant of Kahikatea Swamp Forest left on the face of the earth. So a contrast between an ancient remnant and a modern recent development in man's history portrayed. This work was carried out in tones suitable for the room's furnishings at the time and has been greatly admired by overseas visitors, many of whom commissioned works from me as a result.

In the first work they wanted two major features of locality, Castle Rock, named by Captain Cook as he sailed passed in 1779, and the lighthouse which stands on a rock promontory jutting out into the sea. In another work they wanted a view of Castle Rock from the south showing the coast and a river which flows after heavy rain.
