Based on community development principles, The Linwood Community Arts Centre is a project of Te Whare Roimata Trust, the Inner City East Neighbourhood Cottage. The Arts Centre focuses on the needs of people in the Inner City, Linwood, Richmond, Phillipstown and Charleston communities. The Linwood Arts Centre provides lower-income people in these communities with access and participation opportunities in a wide range of the Arts. It offers a low cost, non-profit venue for local artists to exhibit art, perform and receive tuition in the arts, including visual arts, writing, drama, music, singing, craftwork, etc.
Charges: $60 per week main gallery hire. $5 per hour for workshop space.
Exhibitors applications and ideas for workshops etc. are warmly invited.
Linwood Community Arts Centre and Eastside Gallery
At the Linwood Community Arts Centre and Eastside Gallery, we offer inexpensive arts classes, venue hire, darkroom hire, gallery hire, arts events and multicultural events. We are also a great source for information about up and coming arts events within Christchurch.
Our classes include drama, dance, photography, paper mache, general art, figure drawing, and music.
Our centre welcomes anyone who wants a place to enjoy learning about, creating and sharing the arts with others.
Voluntary Arts Opportunities
We are a grass roots community organisation so we welcome artists in any of the creative arts fields to volunteer.
Volunteers will gain valuable experience and references in teaching, mentoring, as arts technicians, gallery curation, community work and public liason.
We provide our arts volunteers with free access to the darkroom and use of our art classroom for the creation of art works. Volunteers will gain information and networks related to the arts through us.
