'UNDER
THE KNIFE'
This series
of works share in common the use of a palette knife to apply
acrylic paint to canvas. These expressionist images are drawn
from everyday life in the form of personal photographs, images
in the newspapers and magazines.
The
main body depict various sporting activities which serve to
represent everyday challenges, frustrations, losses, defeats,
joys and achievements that happen throughout the world, in
the city, the bush and other cultures. Others look on as spectators
either by choice or are relegated there by the conventions
of society. We can either participate or stay on the sidelines.
However, in all our activity we also need time to stand aside
and reflect and to pass our insights onto others The technique
matches the sense of action and energy, with impastoed texture
in many of the works.
