A painter and sculptor, Josie Martin has traveled extensively and exhibited regularly both in New Zealand and overseas. She has attended International Art Workshops in Italy and the USA, residency at the prestigious McDowell Art Colony. She is the recipient of several art awards and scholarships, with works displayed in collections in NZ and overseas.
The art work is innovative, optimistic and colourful. Josie uses whatever medium inspires her at the time, continually expressing a 'joie de vivre'! She has been experimenting and working on her visual ideas with open-minded seriousness exploring paint, colour, form and materials intuitively. Continually changing metamorphosing forms refer to her interest in horticulture reflecting the zany balance of nature. Her work seems to pulse with an evolving sense of growth and development, unpredictability and surprise in the final results.
