In Search of Belly Dance

Students in the 2010 show

Description

On International Belly Dance Day Kashmir's students explore belly dance. What is it exactly? And sometimes they may go to the edge - and step over. The show will present a range of stereotypical belly dance - with bare bellies, shimmies, zills and veils - but also a range of associated folkloric forms using canes, balancing candelabra and even some Turkish Rom. In contrast there will also be Bollywood and Flamenco - which, of course, is not belly dance by any stretch.

Risingholme Theatre. Saturday 14 May 2011.
